Dr. Ohad Shahar is our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (Oral Surgeon) He completed a 5-year surgical residency at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel. He holds a DMD degree and a MS degree in medical sciences from The Hebrew University – Hadassah School Of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem.
Dr. Shahar is certified in hypnosis and reduction of dental phobia. He is qualified in advanced cardiovascular life support and pediatric advanced life support. Dr. Shahar is an instructor for dental students in the oral maxillofacial surgery clinic at Hebrew University, and received a teaching award in this capacity in 2012.
Dr Shahar is a recipient of the prestigious Halperin award for his research in Masticatory muscle activity in response to surgical trauma and emotional stress. Fields of research include:
- TMJ ankylosis as a result of early childhood mastoiditis.
- Total TMJ replacement using a custom-made prosthesis.
- Dental implants for patients undergoing immunosuppressive treatment.
- Incidence of headaches in TMD patients.
- Implant supported overdenture survival in the elderly population.
Originally from Haifa, Dr. Shahar spent a number of years living in the USA, which account for his mother-tongue English. In his spare time, Dr. Shahar enjoys photographing the beautiful sites in and around Jerusalem, and spending time with his wife and son.
