Dr. Simone Landau will take a model of the tooth and then send it to a dental laboratory to custom build the crown. She will then fabricate for you a temporary crown, which will serve to protect the tooth until your permanent crown is ready. The laboratory usually needs one to two weeks to custom build your crown. The permanent crown is then cemented or glued onto your tooth. Typically, only two visits are required for this part of the procedure. If a lot of tooth structure has been lost, a filling must first be placed in the tooth, in order to replace the missing tooth structure and stabilize the tooth, before the crown is placed. Tooth crowns usually last ten to fifteen years.
Be sure to discuss with your cosmetic dentist, Dr. Simone Landau that the cement color used for your permanent crown will be the same as used for your temporary crown. A try in paste is used for this purpose. The color of the cement does affect the overall color of a porcelain crown, so this needs to be discussed long before your temporary crown is placed.
